To help 1st and 2nd graders look at arrays for the first time - what is the area? We find this by multiplying one side by the other. 2nd and 3rd graders will also need to show understanding of arrays being represented by a multiplication or an addition equation. Students can use these outlines to color and write their equations, or use for finding perimeter as well. 3rd graders will be meeting the standard of breaking apart larger arrays into 2 smaller arrays with multiplication expressions added together, so this is good preparation for that work.
